The Geological Time Line
The Earth is very old, 4.6 billion years old to be precise. Geologist split this long period of time into a series of sections or grouping to make things easier. The geological timeline shown on this page shows these different sections. Geologist tend to talk about the periods of geological time as shown below.

If you want to learn the geological time line, or at least remember which order the periods come in, then a good way to remember it is but using the following rhyme. The first letter of each word in the rhyme refers to the first letter of the geological period (remember to read from BOTTOM to TOP, as we are going from OLDEST to YOUNGEST):
